After the release of Ocean's Eleven we were told by Warner Bros that we could expect a string of films to come out of this franchise. At first the prospects looked good. However, after seeing Ocean's Twelve with its tired step down from the original we have begun to think that the franchise looked bleak.
Not stopping Warner Bros., the picture house announced that they are working on an Ocean's Thirteen some time back and have now given a finalized date to start production.
Ocean's Thirteen to get Filming
According to Variety, Warner Bros. and producer Jerry Weintraub have set a July 21 start date for Ocean's Thirteen, with hottie Ellen Barkin as the pic's new leading lady.
Due to issues encountered on set such as the paparazzi and foot traffic during the previous films, Warner Bros has decided that Ocean's Thirteen will be shot exclusively on a sound stage.
Soderbergh has already committed to direct returning cast members George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Eddie Jemison, Shaobo Qin, Carl Reiner and Elliott Gould.
With Barkin in, that means previous first femmes Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones are sitting this one out.
The film was scripted by Rounders scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
