Burt Reynolds is the man. Ever since he became my favorite porn king on film in Boogie Nights (a close second is Timothy Olyphant in Girl Next Door) I have had nothing but love for the work he has done.
Sure, he has had more than a few misses, but guy was freakin' Jack Horner!
Since I am so big on Reynolds it is good to hear of the actor entering a genre in which he so belongs-- Texas Hold'em.
New Crew for Deal
According to Variety, Burt Reynolds, Shannon Elizabeth and Bret Harrison are all signed up to star in the Gil Cates Jr. pic titled Deal. Deal, like so many films before it, will take an inside look at playing poker and how to become a major player.
In order to keep the film legit, it has also been stocked full of real-life poker players such as Phil "The Unabomber" Laak, Antonio "The Magician" Esfandari and Vince Van Patten.
Poker has become a huge 'sport' over the last few years and the ratings for the World Series of Poker continue to grow. As a matter of coincidence, I am currently playing a tournament over at Party Poker right now; damn river! Who would have thunk it!
Deal, which begins shooting April 3 in New Orleans, revolves around an ex-gambler who teaches a hot-shot college student how to "play the player," vs. just the cards. But after the two have a bitter falling out, mentor and student find themselves competing against each other in the World Poker Tour championships.
Burt Reynolds was recently seen in both The Longest Yard and The Dukes of Hazzard. Bret Harrison can currently be seen on the television series The Loop.
