Top 10 Must See Movies for 2005
By Ryan Parsons | Images property of respective holders, info can be found at movie pages.
Alright boys and girls, here are the top 10 most
wanted 2005 movies. These predictions have no direct relation to how each
movie would fare at the box-office, but it should give some indication.
All movie information can be found within the CanMag
Movie Database. So, lets begin!
Featuring probably one of the coolest and most unique trailers I have ever
seen, I got to shout props to a film that is filled with great actors and
gorgeous ladies. The cast consists of Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Bruce Willis,
Benicio del Toro, Tobey McGuire, Brittany Murphy, Jessica Alba, Marley Shelton,
Elijah Wood, Christopher Walken, and Michael Clark Duncan.
The film is based off of the graphic novels by Frank Miller.

Grevious should be the hottest thing since sliced bread. |
I'm gonna be honest with this one, it should be rated as number one for
most wanted. The only reason I docked it is due to my slight disappointed
in the other two Star Wars films. Watching the new trilogy causes
me to have even more respect for the original trilogy, and I already love
that series.
On a positive note, the hype, rumors, and leaks have all said wonderful
things about the film. This is quite the opposite of the Phantom Menace,
where the rumors suggested poor development and acting. I think my favorite
leak is this: "there is more acting and emotion in ten minutes of Revenge
of the Sith than the other two films combined". It also seems dark
as hell, according to the spoilers at least.

Bale should be able to match up to Keaton as Batman |
Two major changes have occurred for Batman Begins. First, Batman
is now Christian Bale [perfect choice!]. Second, Christopher Nolan [Memento]
is now in the director's chair [also perfect]. Expect a return to dark Batman
films, not homoerotic attempts to bring in dough with little more than star
power. Bale, who has starred in films such as Equilibrium, Reign
of Fire, and The Machinist, has got to be the next best thing
to Michael Keaton. Do not be surprised if Bale actually out scores Keaton
as the new Batman.
Another great addition is the wonderful cast that includes: Christian Bale,
Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Ken Watanabe, Katie
Holmes, Cillian Murphy, Tom Wilkinson, Rutger Hauer, Sara Stewart, Richard
Brake, and Gus Lewis.

I look and I see a True Lies aura |
This film quickly snuck into being of my favorite hopefuls for 2005 as it
reminds me so damn much of True Lies, one of the greatest action/comedy
films. I don't know if the marketing team meant to do this, but they even
used the same music from True Lies in the Mr and Mrs Smith Trailer.
And, just like most of the films to be listed, the trailer just looks so
damn cool! Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are smoking together!

Weasley... look how big you've gotten! |
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire almost made it to 2006, just
squeezing in before the holidays. Now, I have to throw some major props
for this film as I HAVE read the books and love each one. However, I think
Goblet of Fire may be my favorite, which means only more good things for
the film. I just wished Alfonso Cuarón, who directed Prisoner
of Azkaban, would have stayed on for Goblet. The only thing
I didn't much approve of was the costume changes that occurred in Azkaban;
I preferred the robes. The new director is Mike Newell.
What to expect in Goblet of Fire: a lot of Rowling style twists,
tons of new characters, and a showdown with Voldemorte. Also, kid(s) die
in this book.

The Fantastic group. |
Jessica Alba running around in dark tights... oh boy! Ok, ok, there is more
to this film than just that. While we have yet to see a trailer for Fantastic
Four [one should be due], the video diary and early pics offer up enough
to prove that there is some production value behind the film.
I am most excited to see the Human Torch in action....

Could be extremely funny. Depp and Burton are a great pair. |
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is rated much higher than I would
have expected, as it is the third most viewed movie on CanMag. I think most
the hype power for this film comes from three things: remake, Johnny Depp,
and Tim Burton. Tim Burton and Depp seem to only do great things and, with
a movie such as Chocolate Factory on their plates, it seems that
the sky is the limit.
Doesn't Depp look a little 'sickly' in the trailer though?

Could be extremely funny. Depp and Burton are a great pair. |
Another film that almost ended up becoming part of my 2006 predictions.
I would have rated King Kong higher, but the release date is ages
away. The reason this film should start getting hype is for a multitude
of reasons including the following:
Remake of a classic
Peter Jackson [LOTR] is in the director's chair
A cast that includes Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Adrien Brody, Andy Serkis,
Jamie Bell, Kyle Chandler, Lobo Chan, Thomas Kretschmann, Evan Parke,
and Colin Hanks.
Some damn cool looking art renditions
Some press watched a simple animation of how Peter Jackson wanted King
Kong to end, the entire crew was 'awestruck' by the simple piece

A comedy in space |
Alright, I'm taking a serious gamble with this one. Considering there has
only been one news clip for the movie and a teaser trailer that shows absolutely
nothing, it is hard to figure how Hitchhiker's will do. I also further this
risk considering that the film will rely on British comedy, which is a little
too dry for my tastes [in most cases].
On the other hand, it features a cast with Mos Def, Zooey Deschanel, Martin
Freeman, and the hilarious Sam Rockwell. Now just give us a real trailer!

Its time for a real War of the Worlds trailer. |
To be honest, I completely looked over this film and now it is ranked tenth.
What can I say, the competition is rough this year. However, I am sure War
of the Worlds will move up in popularity once they give a real trailer that
actually shows some clips from the film. Cruise and Spielberg can only combine
to make good things.
Release: December 9, 2005 |

Not much released for Narnia yet. |
Again, another gamble here. However, this Narnia could be an epic
film as Weta has stepped in to help out.
Not really too much to report on this film now, but check out the movie
info page for a long behind the scenes clip that explains what Narnia is
about and all the included characters.
Alright, it took me some time to look through all the movies and decide which to pick for top ten. As always, most won't agree with the order, but it is my order... so what now? Since there are so many good films to see for the
year of 2005, here are some other suggestions:
Casshern
Aeon Flux
Bewitched
Be Cool
Elektra
High Tension
The Island
Kingdom of Heaven
The New World |
