The Lonely Island
It looks like The Lonely Island comedy team is ready to re-kindle a feature film for Paramount.
Paramount Gets Lonely Island for Hot Rod
According to Variety,
Paramount Pictures has got one of their older projects, Hot Rod, back on track thanks to the comedy team The Lonely Island.
Andy Samberg will star in Hot Rod, with Jorma Taccone taking a supporting part and Akiva Schaffer making his directorial debut on the project.
Penned by Pam Brady, Hot Rod is about an accident-prone daredevil who plans to jump Snake River on a moped in an effort to emulate his hero Evel Knievel and win over his hard-to-please stepfather.
Another SNLer, Will Ferrell, was originally sought after for the starring role for Hot Rod. However, due to Ferrell's jump in popularity, the actor was unable to join the cast because of scheduling difficulties.
Lorne Michaels, who works close to The Lonely Island for Saturday Night Live, will produce Hot Rod with John Goldwyn.
Samberg and Taccone are in the cast of SNL and Schaffer is a writer. They collaborate on sketches and caught a lot of attention for their SNL digital short Lazy Sunday. Samberg starred in it, Schaffer directed and Taccone was music director. Their other notable short was a spoof titled Chronic of Narnia.
