If you have ever wanted to go to the Cannes Film Festival this year couldn't be any better. Opening up with The Da Vinci Code, the 59th annual Cannes Film Festival is only getting warmed up.

X-Men 3 at Cannes

According to Variety, Cannes should get a boost in Hollywood presence thanks to the screening of X-Men 3: The Last Stand. Hugh Jackman, who may become the top name of the festival, will also have his other starring vehicle, Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain, screened as well.

If you are feeling a bit too excited about the recent slate of films to arrive at Cannes you will also have the option to bring yourself back down, or depress yourself for that matter, with twenty minutes from Oliver Stone's World Trade Center. Stone will also be honored for a 20th anniversary tribute to Platoon.

But the films don't stop there!

For the animation fans out there, the Cannes film festival will give you your first chance to catch the upcoming Dreamworks animation Over the Hedge.

It is being reported that there will be 20-plus competition titles in place, with most films either being English-language or European pics; 2006 has only a pinch of Asian films. However, no confirmed schedule has been released yet.

It will be interesting to see the extra numbers of people that films such as X-Men 3 and The Da Vinci Code pull in.

X-Men 3 comes to theatres on May 26th.

Stay tuned for updates.
