50 Cent
In what I have figured to be an unlikely pair, Nicolas Cage and 50 Cent have recently teamed up to co-star in The Dance.
Sure, most would have expected Tom Arnold in this type of role but Cage?
50 Cent and Cage for The Dance
According to Variety, Universal Pictures has picked up Nicolas Cage and 50 Cent to star in The Dance, a film based on the life of prison boxing coach Billy "The Kid" Roth.
Once a successful prizefighter, Roth has spent more than 40 years as a volunteer boxing coach in Louisiana state prisons.
I always found this an interesting way to go, considering that I am pretty sure lessons on how to advance your hand-to-hand skills is not exactly the first thing prison inmates need to be doing; why not teach them to ballroom dance like Take the Lead? Also, why does it always seem like inmates get tons of time at their 'local' gym? Are bigger criminals the solution?
No matter. Cage will play Roth, while 50 Cent will play an inmate the coach believes has the talent to be a contender -- the only hindrance being that he's serving a life sentence; which should mean even extra hours at becoming a better killer.
The Dance is based on a 2003 doc helmed by John Darling Haynes. Nicolas Cage and Norm Golightly exec-produced the documentary with hopes to make it into a feature film.
Neil Tolkin (The Emperor's Club) has been picked up to write the script.
