Punk Farm
Dreamworks has already begun to look for their next CG animated project and found the perfect novel to float their boat.
Dreamworks Adapts Punk Farm
According to Variety, DreamWorks Animation has picked up the film rights to the children's book Punk Farm to adapt the story into a CG animation. The studio has hired Ice Age: The Meltdown co-writer Jim Hecht to pen the script.
Punk Farm, written by Jarrett J. Krosoczka, revolves around a group of farm animals who have one goal in mind -- to become an underground rock band. Together, a sheep, a chicken, a pig, a goat and a cow journey to perform at the first-ever animal music fest, Livestock.
The project was developed by producer Kevin Messick, who helped pitch the deal to Dreamworks Animation chief exec Jeffrey Katzenberg.
"We both loved the idea of this group of farm animals with the rebellious spirit of punk rock," Messick said.
Dreamworks Animation is currently feeling pretty good about the CG animation genre thanks to the box office success of Blue Sky's Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. The next Dreamworks Animation coming to theatres is Over the Hedge.
Stay tuned for updates.
