Warner Bros Remakes Sharky's Machine
According to Variety, Warner Bros. has picked up director Phil Joanou to helm its remake of the cop action flick Sharky's Machine.
Basil Iwanyk's Thunder Road banner to will produce.
Who will take Burt Reynolds place in the remake? None other than the ex-Funky Bunch lead Mark Wahlberg, who will also be exec producing with Stephen Levinson for Leverage Management.
Updated version will vary in places from the original and likely won't be set in Atlanta. Story revolves around a tough homicide cop who is demoted to the lowest of the low, the morals squad. He rallies together a ragtag group of cops who successfully take down a man who rigs elections.
The original film was based on the novel by William Diehl.
The script for the remake was completed two years ago by scribe Jerry Stahl. Doug Miro and Carlos Bernard have since rewritten the script.
