George Lucas is one of those polarizing directors that has fans either bagging on him for poor character direction or wanting to blow him for creating the Star Wars franchise; no matter how bad one or two films may have been in the saga. To make matters more awkward, some moviegoers and young filmmakers (would) do both.
George Lucas is going to give filmmakers their chance at his ear -- and his eyes -- by playing guest director at the upcoming Los Angeles Film Festival.
Lucas at Los Angeles Film Festival
According to THR, George Lucas will serve as guest director at the 2006 Los Angeles Film Festival, which is scheduled for June 22-July 2 in Westwood under the auspices of Film Independent. Lucas will create a sidebar program of films that have inspired his work and also will host a festival retreat at his Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, Calif.
He is the ultimate independent filmmaker," FIND executive director Dawn Hudson said. "His talent and his contributions to cinema make this year a true milestone for the Los Angeles Film Festival as a world-class event."
