Apocalypto
It has been no secret that the summer of 2006 is awfully crowded with films. Though most the action is set to go down between May and July, there are still studios who even worry about their August releases. Take Disney and their upcoming Mel Gibson film Apocalypto. After announcing an August 4th release, Disney has decided that December is the better option.
Apocalypto Release on December 8th
Whether it is production delays or the threat of competition, Disney has yanked Apocalypto clean out of summer and placed the film on a date where Mel Gibson has been more fortunate. The new release date for Apocalypto is December 8th, 2006; because there is nothing better than a lot of tribal violence and gore to kick off the holidays.
According to Variety, the move comes down to production delays and a 'thinner playing field.' With the August release, Apocalypto was going to have to go head to head with the Will Ferrell comedy Talladega Nights and Warner Bros upcoming CG animation The Ant Bully.
With the film's move to December 8th, Apocalypto must now face The Holiday and We Are Marshall.
Not wanting to abandon the month of August, Disney has also pushed forward Step Up from fall to August 11th and Invincible from January to August 25th.
