Paradise Lost
The end of 2005 and all of 2006 has strengthened one growing trend -- why write original screenplays when you can adapt terrific books and, better yet, graphic novels. Not a day goes by when we don't hear about another novel being acquired by some large picture house for future use.
What we don't see too often, however, is adaptations of poems.
Legendary Visits Paradise Lost
According to Variety, Legendary Pictures has director Scott Derrickson attached to develop a live-action film version of Paradise Lost. Yes, the same poem from John Milton that covers the fall of man thanks to the temptation of Adam and Eve by Satan; a temptation that later gets the two evicted from the Garden of Eden.
This story quickly reminds me of Christopher's reasoning behind Eden when he discovers that it was possible for man and dinosaur to live during the same time period (Sopranos). How can Adam and Eve be living in paradise if they are running from T-Rex dinosaurs all the time?
Anywho, back to the movie.
Vincent Newman, known for films such as A Man Apart and We're the Millers, will produce Paradise Lost.
Legendary, backed by private investment money, is co-financing and co-producing several high-profile Warner Bros. films, including Superman Returns, Lady in the Water and 10,000 B.C. Legendary created a partnership with Warner Bros. to co-produce and co-finance at least twenty-five films over a five-year period.
Legendary's Jon Jashni said, "[Paradise Lost has a] timeless theme along with an inherently powerful and visual dramatic story. We are excited by the challenge of going back to the source material."
