In an effort to fill the theatres with even more films this summer, Focus Features has picked up Woody Allen's upcoming pic Scoop. Starring Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson, the cast may be enough to grab the film some late attention.
Focus Targets Scoop for Summer
According to Variety, Focus Features has picked up Woody Allen's Scoop in an aggressive effort to get the film into domestic theatres by this summer. Focus also has rights to the film in Australia and New Zealand.
Scoop features a cast that includes Woody Allen, Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson and Ian McShane. The film tells the story of a student journalist visiting London who happens upon the scoop of a lifetime. She also finds the possibility of love with a Brit aristocrat.
Yeah, it sure does sound pretty Woody Allen-ish.
The deal will reunite Johansson with Focus Features, who also had the rights to her breakout hit Lost in Translation.
Why Focus is hoping for a summer release we cannot say; especially considering there are many picture houses still wishing they can pull their films out of the May-July window.
