During the end of last week Variety came out with a report claiming that J.J. Abrams was set to produce and direct an untitled Star Trek XI. The report then went into further details about the film's story that hinted on the return to Starfleet Academy.
Though all the details sounded pretty great, J.J. Abrams has recently popped up in the media claiming the report was not entirely accurate.
JJ Abrams on Star Trek
Empire caught up to J.J. Abrams and quickly discussed the latest Star Trek news with the M:i:III director. According to Abrams, the information reported was not entirely accurate and that details on the story are far from being disclosed.
"The whole thing was reported entirely without our cooperation," says the director with a hint of regret. "People learned that I was producing a Star Trek film, that I had an option to direct it, they hear rumours of what the thing was going to be and ran with a story that is not entirely accurate."
So what is the next Star Trek going to be about anyway? It turns out that J.J. Abrams keeps his secrets to the likes of a super-spy and has made a pact not to discuss any specifics.
However, it still does look like there is a strong chance to see Kirk back on the bigscreen.
"Those characters are so spectacular. I just think that… you know, they could live again."
