Ever since Warner Bros announced the budget of their upcoming tentpole flick Poseidon we were among many who predicted that the film would be considered a success if it could make back the money at the box office. We didn't think the film would suck per se, we just expected something to the likes of Troy -- a big budget film that leaves nothing to be remembered.

So now we have been alerted to the first review to appear online for the film and it seems like everybody's expectations were right on.

Poseidon Gets Reviewed

The good people over at AICN have recently been scooped what looks to be one of the first reviews we have seen for the Warner Bros film Poseidon. A remake of the original The Poseidon Adventure, Poseidon has enough big budget effects to get people into the theatres. But what will their thoughts be when they leave?

POSEIDON, directed by blockbuster summer movie director Wolfgang Petersen, is kinda weak, kinda mediocre and kinda so-so.

What’s good?

1. The 2 minute "rogue" wave sequence is cool, but you've pretty much seen it already in the trailer.

2. The overall CGI of the cruiseliner, from the opening shot which establishes its size to the underwater shots throughout the film showing the capsized ship exploding and losing electricity etc.

Here’s why... here’s what’s bad (or could have been better):

2. Character development: um... there’s none. There’s literally 10 minutes before the wave hits! Now i know what you’re thinking, no one wants to see the crappy introductions anyway, and I agree, but the cast was barely set up. DAY AFTER TOMMORROW at least TRIED to give us some info about the people we are supposed to care about.

I can't say I am surprised in the slightest. However, I have to hand it to Warner Bros for creating one hell of an impressive trailer that could be enough to make back the money spent before word of mouth takes over.

Check out the full review for Poseidon over at AICN.

Poseidon comes to theatres on May 12th 2006.
