Mission Impossible 3
Paramount has hit a little bit of a hickup when it comes to the release of Mission: Impossible III in China. Because of the pics portrayal of the country, the Chinese are holding out on the film's release until mid-summer. Well, at least we got a couple more movie stills.
M:I:3 in China
According to Variety, Senior Chinese government officials are holding off on the release of M:i:III. The film, which gets released to Asia on Wednesday, will have no box office strength thanks to the massive amounts of piracy that occur in the area. Chinese is pushing the film to a mid-July start, giving enough time for copies of the film to flood the market and kill the ticket sales.
Foreign distribution companies report that China is issuing a "blackout" period from June 10th to July 11th during which major revenue-share titles cannot be released.
It is estimated that the delay on the release of Mission: Impossible III will cost Paramount 30%-40% in ticket sales. Hey, pirates got to make money too.

I hope the Chinese moviegoers themselves have been alerted to the change. With all the censorship China forced on Google and Yahoo! the people may not even know about this "blackout."
Mission: Impossible 3 comes to theatres on May 5th, 2006.
