Ben Affleck
I am going to regret admitting this -- I dig the idea of Ben Affleck playing the role of a young Captain Kirk. What? Though people love to hate him because of the whole Bennifer incident it is hard to avoid the fact that he can be one heck of a character actor. Go watch Shakespeare in Love and then we'll talk.
After we received word that JJ Abrams would at least produce the next trekkie project -- if not direct -- we have been working to keep in touch with every new Star Trek update to come our way.
Though Abrams claims that the info about him sitting in the director's chair is false, that does not mean it isn't true either; if you get what I mean.
But where was I?
Ben Affleck as Captain Kirk
According to a rumor over at Cinescape, Ben Affleck has been talking to Paramount about taking the 'lead role' for the upcoming Star Trek project under M:i:III director JJ Abrams.
.. some others had heard that Ben has also been talking to Paramount about possibly playing a lead role in a new Star Trek film from J.J Abrams. Apparently Abrams is coming down to visit the set in a few weeks, to visit Michelle Monaghan, whom he directed in Mission : Impossible 3, so that might add some more fuel to the fire. If it comes off, he's apparently playing the hero. Don't know if that's Captain Kirk or some other nameless male protagonist...but that's the gist of it. So possible that Affleck's going to go onto doing a new Jack Ryan, and possibly a "Trek", after he finishes with this film ["Gone Baby Gone"].
Since both Paramount and JJ Abrams have a lot on their minds with the release of Mission: Impossible III this weekend, I am sure we will receive no confirmation on this report until latter half of next week; if then. For now, just know that Paramount is taking the project seriously and has already set their sights on possible 'heroes'.
