The Lion, Sony and Revolution have all jumped in the ring with MGM to help get Rocky Balboa financed and overseas.
Rocky Balboa
According to Variety, Rocky Balboa is being co-financed by MGM, Sony and Revolution. When pic was first announced last fall, MGM hadn't yet relaunched as a distribution and marketing entity and Sony was set to distribute.
Besides financing, the Lion will handle marketing while Sony takes care of overseas distribution.
The film is the first to be distributed by the new MGM that it partially financed. All the other films on its slate were financed by others, with MGM handling distribution, along with marketing in some cases, for a fee.
Rocky Balboa, the sixth installment in the Rocky franchise, is a big step for MGM as all the previous films had been created by United Artists; the picture house was purchased by MGM back in 1981. Balboa -- along with Pink Panther and Casino Royale -- is one of the few films that MGM has co-financed since going private.
Rocky Balboa comes to theatres on February 7, 2007.
