Touchstone Pictures has released the first poster for Apocalypto and it looks just as eerie as the trailer.

From Academy Award® winning filmmaker Mel Gibson (The Passion of The Christ, Braveheart), comes Apocalypto: a heart stopping mythic action-adventure set against the turbulent end times of the once great Mayan civilization. When his idyllic existence is brutally disrupted by a violent invading force, a man is taken on a perilous journey to a world ruled by fear and oppression where a harrowing end awaits him. Through a twist of fate and spurred by the power of his love for his woman and his family he will make a desperate break to return home and to ultimately save his way of life.
You can check out the first poster of Apocalypto below. One thing that stands out in my mind, besides how the imagery presents the unavoidable devastation in the film, is how big Mel Gibson's name is on the thing. What if some people get confused and think 'Mel Gibson' is part of the title? Wait! Is he part of the title? Damn these high-profile directors!

Apocalypto was supposed to close out summer this August. Disney thought better of that move and has pushed the release date back to December 8th.
