Most have been excited about the upcoming comedy The Break-Up for one single reason -- Vince Vaughn. Though the actor seems unstoppable after Wedding Crashers, first hesitations began to grow when it was rumored Universal was editing/re-shooting some scenes after early screenings of the film experienced a negative response to both the film and its ending.

So, now with the release of The Break-Up upon us, how did Universal do?

The Break-Up Early Reviews

Various reviews have begun to spring up across the web for The Break-Up and, so far, not a single one is positive. Ouch!

Take a look at two sample reviews below to see what I mean.

Variety
Misleadingly marketed as a boisterous comedy, The Break-Up may be the first "last-date movie" -- the one you see with someone that you're about to dump. Sporadic rays of sunshine emanate from the broad and gifted supporting cast, but the core story is almost relentlessly unpleasant, like sitting through a dinner party where the host couple does nothing but bicker. Pic's built-in curiosity about the onscreen Vince Vaughn-Jennifer Aniston pairing should quickly dissipate faster than one of Vaughn's rat-a-tat riffs as word of mouth spreads.

Hollywood Reporter
In the meantime, there's The Break-Up, a major disappointment of an anti-romantic comedy for which Vaughn shares producer and story credits in addition to sharing the screen with real-life squeeze Jennifer Aniston.

After a promisingly quirky start, Break-Up suffers a major breakdown from which it never recovers.

Audiences expecting a good time will instead be rewarded with wildly unsympathetic lead characters and uncomfortably long stretches without a laugh in sight. While they might initially be drawn in by the marketing department's promise of something a lot more entertaining, the end boxoffice result will likely be less than amicable.

Ouch, ouch and double-ouch. I was hoping to have some solid positive reviews up today but so far no go.
