One Aussie actor for another, Hugh Jackman will replace Russell Crowe to co-star with Nicole Kidman.
Jackman on Luhrmann Film
According to Variety, Baz Luhrmann is setting Hugh Jackman to star alongside Nicole Kidman in his Australian period epic for 20th Century Fox. Jackman filled in on the role after Crowe departed on the project.
The story, which doesn't sound all that interesting, is set before World War II and centers on an English aristocrat who joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle driver after her northern Australian ranch is threatened by Brit cattle barons.
I can't wait to see the taglines for this one -- 'The battle for the cattle begins!'
The film is expected to enter production February of 2007.
Director Baz Luhrmann, who has been working on the script with Stuart Beattie (Collateral) and Ronald Harwood, hasn't been behind a camera since Moulin Rouge.
"I rarely make a film and my process is unorthodox, but this fell into place nicely with Hugh," Luhrmann said. "He's a tremendously strong choice."
A third lead, a rival for the heroine's love and land, is yet to be cast; Luhrmann thought Jackman might take that role, until Crowe fell out of the lead.
