Alien vs Predator
For all of you who thought the first Alien vs Predator could have been better, it turns out that 20th Century Fox completely agrees with you.
Strause for Alien vs Predator Sequel
According to Variety, Visual effects pros Greg and Colin Strause have been picked up by 20th Century Fox to direct Alien vs. Predator 2.
Armageddon scribe Shane Salerno, who rewrote the original Alien vs. Predator, wrote the script. I am a little confused on why they would rehire the same writer as the original AVP, especially since Fox is trying to get away from that style of film.
"We really want to take it back to the original 'Alien' and 'Predator' films and make a serious, gritty horror film," Colin Strause said.
"We want to take it back to its roots, without losing sight of the human struggle," added Greg Strause. "That's what made the originals so good."
If these two brothers can create a film up to the caliber of Cameron's Aliens II then we may really have something here. However, that would mean a huge improvement over the original AVP.
The Strause brothers own Santa Monica-based visual effects house Hydraulics and have extensive visual effects credits on films including Titanic, The Day After Tomorrow and X-Men: The Last Stand. They've also directed commercials for Toyota, PlayStation and Coca-Cola.
