Nacho Libre
With Nacho
Libre coming our way this Friday, new reviews have begun to pop up and, unlike the first reviews, they are not entirely positive.
Nacho Libre Reviews
Here are two new reviews below that give the other side of Nacho Libre. Neither review blasts the film, but they sure aren't ecstatic.
AICN
Just saw "Nacho Libre" last night and as much as I anticipated that this was going to be a great film, sadly it misses its mark.
There were moments that the writer/director Jared Hess could have taken liberties with by mocking the "Rocky" franchise(One moment he does comes too late as its at the end of the movie.) throughout the film or taken from some of the wrestling luchadore movies("Blue Demon," "Mil Mascaras," Abel Salazar's "Brainiac" mask etc.). like when Nacho and his wrestling partner, Esqueleto battle "Satan" and his overweight daughter in the ring.
Village Voice
So it's of some relief to announce that Nacho Libre, the latest from Hess (and co-writers Mike White and Jerusha Hess, Jared's wife), isn't an entirely unpleasant experience, which is to say it doesn't feel as though it's worn out its welcome before the second reel. It takes slightly longer before its gears begin to slip and its jokes begin to wear and its laughs begin to fade; it's only 30 to 45 minutes too long, and therefore a marked improvement for a filmmaker who approached the medium with the attention deficiency of a TV sketch comedy writer. Or maybe a little Jack Black goes a long way.
Ehh, well, it could be worse. Check out the full reviews by clicking on the bold links above (new window).
Nacho Libre opens this weekend on June 16th.
