I have never really been all that much of a fan of biopics and the ones about rappers just don't cut it. The studios, however, have been earning enough money from the films that it would be foolish for them to stop now.
So, who's next? Missy Elliott? Wha?
Missy Elliott Biopic Coming
According to Variety, Universal Pictures is looking to create a biopic on female rapper Missy Elliott.
The studio has acquired a pitch from scribe Dianne Houston based on Missy Elliott's life. Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthall have already been brought on to produce through their Tribeca Films banner along with Elliott's manager Mona Scott.
The
project is currently untitled.
Houston came up with the idea and took it to Scott, who helped flesh it out with the scribe and Elliott herself. Did Elliot throw in a couple positives about herself? I know if I was brought on to create a biopic about myself I would have to throw in an exaggeration or eight.
Elliott has had some experience with Universal before on the production of Honey. I think we can be certain that her involvement in this film will not appear in the biopic.
Born in Portsmouth, Va., in 1971, Elliott began her musical career with the girl group Sista. She then segued to a producing career before breaking out as a solo artist more than 10 years ago.
Elliott writes and produces much of her own music.
