Conan the Barbarian
The last time we had discussed the possibility of the return of Conan it was with a possible Wachowski film titled King Conan. Hoping that the governator would leave office in 2007, the Wachowski brothers hoped to have Arnold sitting on a throne.
Though we have yet to hear any new developments on that, Warner Bros is still working to bring Conan back to the bigscreen with a remake.
Conan the Barbarian Remake
According to Variety, Warner Bros. has picked up Boaz Yakin to write and potentially direct Conan the Barbarian, a new take on the Robert E. Howard-created character.
Yakin, best known for writing and directing Fresh and for directing the gridiron hit Remember the Titans, has been a fan of the Howard series since childhood and came up with a take that impressed the studio.
Yakin's concept is more faithful to the Howard story than were the two Dino De Laurentiis-produced Conan films that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the sword-wielding conqueror.
This will be Warner Bros third effort to revive the Conan franchise. They first saw a chance with director Robert Rodriguez but he fell off the wagon when he quit the Director's Guild of America to co-helm Sin City. Their next shot, as mentioned above, was with the Wachowski brothers, who saw hope in a sequel.
Production for the remake can begin as early as 2007.
Stay tuned for updates.
