I have always loved Philip Seymour Hoffman's numerous characters. Whether he is playing an in the closet homosexual, an out of the closet homosexual or an extremely joyous aid, the guy can't help but shine on screen.
Hoffman's recent test was that of a villain in M:i:III. Though I did initially doubt the actor in that type of role, my fears turned out to be unfounded; he is just that good.
And now that M:i:III is behind us, Hoffman is ready to expand his filmography.
Philip Seymour Hoffman for War and the Devil
According to Variety, The Oscar-wining Capote star will join Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in Universal's Charlie Wilson's War and will head the cast of the Capitol Films drama Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, directed by Sidney Lumet.
Charlie Wilson's War will be directed by Mike Nichols and produced by Hanks and Gary Goetzman.
Adapted from George Crile's book, Charlie Wilson's War tells the story of a rogue congressman and CIA agent who found the means to secretly arm rebels to fight against invading Soviet troops in Afghanistan in the early 1980s. Hoffman will play the CIA agent.
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead is about two brothers who try to rob their parents' jewelry store, only to botch the job. Hoffman will film Devil first and enter production for War on October 10th.
Hoffman is currently shooting the indie drama The Savages.
