We have to finish the week off with something on Superman
Returns and decided to finally take a look at the whole debate surrounding Superman and whether he is gay or not.
Superman Returns is Sweet?
Just in case you have been living under a rock, tons of articles have recently been written claiming that Superman should finally come out of the closet. What? Why would they think that Superman is gay?
Is it his tight tights? His flowing cape? The way he composes himself? His Peter Pan stance? What?
Well, though nobody is actually admitting it, I think one large reason for the revival of the who gay debate is that director Bryan Singer is openly gay (and Jewish); a combination that makes him the perfect Hollywood man no less. Though in this day in age I can't image how many people out there still have a problem with this, the whole topic does make for some interesting debate.
The Sydney Morning Herald has recently taken a look at the whole 'Homo Superman' debate and even got a response from Superman Returns rook Brandon Routh.
Superman is not gay and neither am I, says the actor who plays the superhero in the latest Hollywood blockbuster based on his adventures.
Brandon Routh, 26, is in Australia for a brief promotional visit, talking up Superman Returns, which was shot in Sydney last year.
Some American media have claimed Routh's portrayal of Superman was less macho than previous versions and that the actor was simply too pretty for the part.
"People will see the movie and realize that Superman is certainly not gay," said Routh, who dates actor Courtney Ford.
"And I am not (gay) as well, but people will have that discussion as much as they want - it is a topic for people to talk about."
The article goes on to mention that the whole 'gay' suggestion doesn't bother Routh in the slightest. I can't imagine why he would be troubled; the guy's first role is in a HUGE film and the whole gay suggestion probably just makes the young actor more popular with the ladies. What's to complain about?
If you do want to see some funny comedy about 'coming out,' check out South Park's rendition of Tom Cruise, Travolta and R Kelly HERE; now that is hilarious.
Superman Returns will fly into theatres on June 28th.
