Flipped
Might as well kick the week off with news of yet another book lined up for adaptation. This time, however, it is not the studio purchasing the rights to the story beforehand.
Ephrons to Adapt Flipped
According to Variety, Nora Ephron is in talks to direct Flipped. She and her sister Delia Ephron are adapting the young-adult novel by Wendelin Van Draanen.
Published in 2001, Flipped charts the relationship of two kids who lock horns at age 7 and share their first kiss at 13.
East of Doheny owner Kelly Gonda is producing with Tracy Trench.
Trench told Daily Variety that Flipped seemed "like the absolutely right book" for the Ephrons.
"For us it was about finding a voice that can do teens and adolescents in a way that doesn't feel like you're talking down to them, that was sophisticated in the way that kids are now," Trench said.
East of Doheny was initially only interested in investing in Broadway plays and West End theatre productions. When they opened up their second office in LA, however, the company began to invest interest in films and television.
Trench hired half a dozen development execs, and the team has been working on a slew of prestige and family-oriented films, including Pool Boy, for director Michael Schultz.
The Ephron sisters last collaborated on the script for Sony's Bewitched.
