Eragon Movie Poster
Since we have been trying to cover the upcoming adaptation of Eragon as closely as possible, we constantly receive updates from those who think of themselves as Eragon superfans. One such alert that has popped in my box from different readers is an update on the film's production budget.
Is Fox ready to risk all on the 'next great fantasy?'
Eragon Budget
Though we have yet to receive any confirmation from the studio, a source of mine that has been following the Eragon film since the beginning reported in that our initial estimated budget, north of $70 million, was weak at best. I had feared that $60 million was incorrect -- this is suppose to be an epic film after all -- and it now looks like creating a believable CG dragon may be a bit more costly than 20th Century Fox initially intended.
About two weeks ago we received a few updates stating that the estimated production budget for Eragon is in fact $100 million. Does fact and estimated work in the same sentence? Moving on...
Only tonight have I been alerted by my Eragon source that the production budget will easily go north of $100 million by the time all is said and done.
Though we couldn't be happier with the news, we are still curious to see the teaser trailer before we begin counting our dragons. Judging by the initial reports on the teaser trailer for Eragon, we may have to just hold out until the first feature trailer before making any early impressions.
Remember, we have yet to receive any confirmation from Fox on this budget adjustment for Eragon. Though we hope it's true, you can never tell when studios are embarassed to admit how much they really spend.
The Eragon teaser trailer comes out with the release of Superman Returns; if not online sooner.
Eragon comes to theatres on
December 15th.
