Josh Lucas
Biopics have recently become a hit in Hollywood. The genre received a revival with Jamie Foxx and Ray and then again with Joaquin Phoenix and Walk the Line. It now looks like Josh Lucas is ready to jump on the bandwagon but will try something a bit different by leaving the instruments behind.
Josh Lucas for Smart
According to Variety, Josh Lucas has signed on for Smart, a biopic based on the eccentric life of GQ and Esquire magazine founder David Smart.
Smart centers on the magazine powerhouse whose life was almost entirely consumed by his germ phobia. He and a circle of colleagues created a long string of classroom instructional films on health and hygiene. Meanwhile, he led an unorthodox personal life and was known for his womanizing and affinity for shirtless photos of himself.
Charlie Peters penned the screenplay.
Though we would have figured that Josh Lucas would play the lead role of David Smart, the film will tell the story from another angle.
Lucas will instead star as a fictional FBI investigator who infiltrates Smart's world. The actor to play David Smart has yet to be cast.
Lucas, who can still be seen in the flop Poseidon, is also signed on to star in Who Killed Daniel Pearl?
