Superman Returns Superman Returns
For this latest review round-up for Superman Returns I have decided to include one of the only negative reviews I could find on the film.

Superman Returns Reviews

MovieHole is super-thrilled on Superman Returns while MovieCityNews seems to have been ovulating before entering the theatre.

MovieHole
For once though, the hype to entertainment-value ratio ties: “Superman Returns” and he’s back in spectacular fashion!

Comic fans from as far as Kansas (appropriately enough) and Kathmandu will be ready – baton’s by side – to take a swipe at the first new “Superman” movie since 1987’s super-slumber “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace” (still trying to get my money back for that time-waster). You can’t blame them either. This new film has been in the works longer than Pauly Shore has been out of work. The wait has to be worth sometime, right?

Right.

Holy Caesar’s Ghost! They’ve done it! - “Superman Returns” is super-exciting, super-fun, and super-bly performed! This is the only Superhero film you need to see this year!

MovieCityNews
Where to start on Superman Returns? It's terribly cast, poorly conceived, extremely light on action, features a romance that is not remotely romantic, doesn't feature a single memorable, "gosh, that was great" repeat-to-your-friends moment in a positive way (the blunder bits start early and often), will be crushed by Pirates of The Caribbean II and played out completely before August 1.

Still, all these problems might have been overcome by a few great action set pieces or a really interesting twist or a villain who was a real genius and/or interested in more than being a bully or a romance that could bloom and not be held back by a competing relationship that is ill defined and endlessly uninteresting or really, anything that made this movie stand out as special - other than a lot of money spent on effects and advertising glamour level cinematography.

I know it must have been an awkward transition to read a review that drools over the film to jump into a review that compares it to Poseidon -- ouch -- but there you go. The negative review above is the only one we have seen (so far).

Check out both reviews by clicking on the bold links above (new window).

Superman Returns will fly into theatres on June 28th.

Stay tuned for updates.
