The box office numbers for the opening Wednesday have already come in for Superman Returns and, though they don't match up to Spider-Man 2, they are pretty solid.
Superman Returns Opening Box Office
Box Office Mojo reports that Superman Returns was able to pull in approximately $21 million on its Wednesday opening. This amount also includes the Tuesday night showings. The combined numbers has earned Superman Returns the eighth biggest Wednesday showing.
When Superman Returns began to receive positive early reviews there were many who thought the film would land a little closer to Spider-Man 2's $40.4 million. Though there are some who may be disappointed with the $21 million take, Warner Bros expects to have huge box office numbers by the time this seven-day weekend closes out.
Shortly after that the film will go head to head with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest increasing the odds that the box office numbers for Superman Returns will drop significantly.
Superman Returns is out in theatres now.
