A Scanner Darkly
I have just been alerted by 'Nicky' that a 24-minute clip of A Scanner Darkly has appeared online.
Extended Scanner Darkly Clip
Sweet relief! Though the clip requires "age verification", it is not one of those stupid systems that never seem to work. You know, the ones that ask your name and birth date and tries to relate it to your driver's license. This one only asks your birth date and, whether you are telling the truth or not, that is good enough for the program.
The film looks amazingly cool and I am hoping to get a review up by tonight. In the twenty-four minutes we have to watch of the film the one person who stands out most is Robert Downey Jr.; hot damn am I glad he is making a comeback.
A Scanner Darkly is set in suburban Orange County, California in a future where America has lost the war on drugs. When one reluctant undercover cop is ordered to start spying on his friends, he is launched on a paranoid journey into the absurd, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode. It is a cautionary tale of drug use based on the novel by Philip K. Dick and his own experiences.
