Not wanting to get too far ahead of ourselves, but
David Yates has officially signed on to direct the fifth Harry Potter
installment, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Harry Potter 5 Grabs David Yates
While the talent of David Yates is not under question [the man
has created nominated films and television shows such as The Young Visiters,
State of Play, The Way We Live Now, The Sins,
and Rank], giving him the director's chair for Harry Potter
and the Order of the Phoenix movie is quite the whopper. However, I
cannot doubt the choices made by the Harry Potter team as their
most extreme choices have so far been correct. The last director, Alfonso
Cuarón, came to Prisoner of Azkaban after making a film
[Y tu mamá también]almost entirely about sex! What
happened with him? Well, if you read my Prisoner of Azkaban review, you
would know that he nailed it and created a wonderful film.
I even though I'm not exactly worrying, I am hoping that David Yates can
follow suit. Remember, Order of the Phoenix is not only the darkest
of the Potter books [so far], but it is also the longest. It is
easy for anyone to lose their way while trying to adapt these books to film;
especially with the extended pages.
Stay tuned for updates. |
