Can anybody remember the last time we have seen Michelle Pfeiffer? How about as a villain? Though we do love to catch repeats of her as Catwoman in Batman Returns, we will soon be able to see her as a beauty queen-turned-bitter Baltimore TV station owner.
I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound too villainous to me.
Michelle Pfeiffer for Hairspray
According to Variety, New Line has picked up Michelle Pfeiffer to play the role of Velma von Tussel in the upcoming Hairspray adaptation.
Pfeiffer joins John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes, Zac Efron and newcomer Nikki Blonsky, who'll play lead Tracy Turnblad.
Adam Shankman will direct based on a script by Leslie Dixon.
Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are writing new songs for their Tony-winning musical score, including a new tune for Pfeiffer.
New Line has confirmed a Sept. 5 start date with all production to take place in Toronto. New Line has also pushed back the film's release to Dec. 21, 2007 due to a crowded summer.
With films like Transformers, Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3, it is hard to disagree with their decision to pull out of the season.
