Here is a brief update for all of you Trekkies who I can only assume are at Comic Con right now. Paramount has released the first teaser poster for Star Trek XI and, to our appreciation, it comes with a stamped release date.
Star Trek XI Poster
The production team for Star Trek XI have released the poster below this weekend in preparation for Comic Con; also going on this weekend. The poster, which provides a 'Polaroid of an era past,' is one giant -- what's the word -- suggestion that the film will be a prequel.
J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof are the film's producers; Bryan Burk, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are executive producers. The film is slated for release in 2008.
If you feeling a bit of nostalgia while staring at the poster below, you may just want to run down to San Diego where Paramount is currently handing it out.

If you are unable to attend Comic Con this weekend, Paramount has also set up three different versions of the poster in banner form along with buddy icons over at StarTrek.
