After delivering an incredible trailer for their upcoming Darren Aronofsky film, The Fountain, Warner Bros has now added another month to the film's release.
Boo!
The Fountain Release Date
Warner Bros has put themselves in an interesting situation with the new release date for The Fountain. Originally set to release in October, Warner Bros decided that it would be better if the film had a chance to take advantage of a holiday weekend. But what holiday weekends are left? Thanksgiving! Yes, The Fountain's new release date is November 22nd.
Though the holiday weekend does usually mean more early ticket sales, the film will now also face stronger competition. It just so happens that Tony Scott's Deja Vu is set for release on the same date and, something that may hurt both films, features similar elements of time travel in its premise.
Neither Buena Vista nor Warner Bros are looking to back off this valuable date and Warner Bros has instead announced their faith in the Aronofksy pic.
"We are so proud of The Fountain, and opening on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving will give more people a chance to see what we think is Darren's finest work," Warners president of domestic distribution at Dan Fellman said.
Other advantages in pushing the date? Sure.
"The extra month will also allow time to build a bigger long-lead campaign and generate greater word-of-mouth in the weeks leading up to the opening," Fellman added.
