Serenity Serenity
This should put a smile on sci-fi fans who had an appreciation for Serenity or Wrath of Khan, or both. MovieFone has recently released their list of 'Best Movies Based on TV Shows' and both films made the cut.

Best Movies Based on TV Shows

11. Maverick
-Fun western gambling with Mel Gibson is sure to bring good times.

10. The Addams Family
-Solid cast, tons of laughs and a young Christina Ricci.

9. Charlie's Angels
-Sex sells, especially when it is taking names and kicking ass. Bill Murray was a plus.

8. The X-Files
-Nobody thought they would actually play the UFO card.

7. The Brady Bunch
-Forced to watch it in college with some girlfriends. Hated it, except when Jan takes a football to the face.

6. Mission: Impossible
-Moviegoers were forced to watch the film three times to remove all confusion.

5. Serenity
-An interesting mix between western and sci-fi that is not only fun but well written.

4. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut
-The got away with a reference to circumcision right in the title. The clit is an issue, and Canada goes to war. The musical numbers were also excellent.

3. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
-Favorite of the entire franchise. Tons of witty dialogue, action and adventure. Talk about a great, fake, chest on Monalban.

2. The Fugitive
-Harrison Ford couldn't have teamed with a better person -- Tommy Lee Jones.

1. The Untouchables
-A solid role for Kevin Costner and Connery still looked, well, younger than he does now. Costner's best is still Silverado.

Thought I would give a couple of the selections a little extra love.

5. Serenity
Joss Whedon was able to take his TV space Western, 'Firefly,' and make it BIGGER. With the same wry dialogue, compelling characters and dang rickety spaceship, the movie is addictive fun. 'Coz, sometimes bigger IS better.

I hadn't seen the series Firefly before entering theatres for Serenity and admit that I was completely blown away by the adventure and comedy to the film. Nathon Fillion was great along with the rest of the cast. The guy who had me giggling most, however, was Adam Baldwin. I, like many Browncoats, would love to see Whedon get greenlit for a sequel.

3. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
If all you know about this sci-fi classic is from 'Seinfeld,' you're missing one of the greatest space sagas ever. Shatner & Nimoy are fab, but it's Ricardo Montalban's villain who launches this epic to greatness.

The Wrath of Khan took a risk by expanding on a story that ended in the television series. All ended up working out and now Wrath of Khan is considered the best of the Star Trek films. The villain was great, the peril was serious, the lines were witty and the strategy applied by both factions was smart. Add in the score by James Horner and the final minutes of Spock and you can understand why director Bryan Singer claims that Wrath of Khan saved the (film) franchise.
