Ladybugs
Whenever I get a new DVD now, I usually pop it in on my 56” JVC Projection HDTV just to see how it looks. Recent films and remastered classics can look as good as genuine HD broadcasts, though most standard catalog releases are only adequate.
Imagine my surprise when Ladybugs, the 1992 Rodney Dangerfield comedy looked as good as King Kong. From the opening Paramount logo you can tell this is a solid picture, and the opening shots of the city are clear with no grain.

But once they get on the soccer field, the colors radiate from the screen. Green grass can show intimate details of individual blades on a close-up shot, and the orange uniforms stand out in bright contrast.
If only Jonathan Brandis were still alive, he’d love to see his work presented in this quality.
