Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community is in denial about the teenager's recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort, preferring to turn a blind eye to the news that Voldemort has returned. Fearing that Hogwarts' venerable Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about Voldemort's return in order to undermine his power and take his job, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, appoints a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the Hogwarts students.
But Professor Dolores Umbridge's Ministry-approved course of defensive magic leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the dark forces threatening them and the entire wizarding community, so at the prompting of his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry takes matters into his own hands. Meeting secretly with a small group of students who name themselves "Dumbledore's Army," Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead.
Things I am hoping for from the film:
1. In Goblet of Fire we rarely visited the classroom. "Dumbledore's Army" is a very important element in the film with some of the items from the special group returning in Half-Blood Prince. Warner Bros has to be sure to mention these items. We also need to see more of Longbottom's improvements.
2. The Weasley twins should be AMAZING in this film. They alone will most likely drive the comedy in this otherwise depressing chapter.
3. The death scene in Goblet of Fire was surprisingly emotional. Warner Bros is still going to have to top that in Order of the Phoenix for you know who.
4. The locket! If you have read the books then you definitely know about the horcrux locket that Potter is going to have to find. This locket makes a brief appearance in Order of the Phoenix and I am hoping that David Yates fits this small, but important detail into the film.
The only question left is how long will it take Order to enter the Top Ten here at CanMag. Goblet had a strong hold of the top spot during its theatrical release and I can only expect that, by October, Order of the Phoenix will already have entered the ranks. Heck, maybe sooner.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens to theatres on July 13th, 2007.
*We are hoping that the seventh Harry Potter installment wil be released on July 7, 2007 (7-7-07).
