Director Chris Wedge continues to build his relationship with 20th Century Fox Animation by hopping aboard an adaptation of one of William Joyce's other illustrated children's books.
Wedge to Direct The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs
I don't know what rules Joyce has laid down for Fox but it would be sweet if they could shorten the title to The Leaf Men; just my two cents.
Anywho, according to THR, 20th Century Fox Animation has found their next animated project with William Joyce's The Leaf Men and Brave Good Bugs. Oscar winner Chris Wedge is attached to direct, with Blue Sky Studios producing.
William Joyce will adapt the novel into a screenplay with the help of Jim V. Hart. The two will expand on the book's premise to make the story film worthy.
Described as an epic adventure centering on ancient elfin magic, the book follows a troop of brave bugs who march off to save a garden, where they encounter an evil spider queen and must summon the mythical Leaf Men to save the day.
Wedge has been forming a history with Fox ever since his first film with the studio -- Ice Age. The animated film was able to pull in $400 million worldwide at the box office. Wedge won an Oscar in 1999 for his short film Bunny.
Wedge was attached to direct Wainscott Weasel, but found extra time when the project was scrapped.
William Joyce's stories have been popular of late with another one of his novels, A Day With Wilbur Robinson, coming to theatres under Walt Disney Feature Animation's Meet the Robinsons.
