Romancing the Stone/Jewel of the Nile
These are the kinds of special editions I love. Movies from my childhood that take you behind the scenes like PR from back then never did. With Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile, the collection of deleted scenes let’s you experience more romance, excitement and magic.
Romancing the Stone/Jewel of the Nile DVD Review
On Stone, you get a ton more from the jungle, the best part of the movie, including more mythology, a very sexy bathing scene framed just right for a PG movie, jungle bugs, a close call with authorities and tons of developing romance banter. Michael Douglas even says, “I’m getting too old for this stuff.” Eat your heart out, Murtaugh.
Several scenes back in the city would have totally dragged out the ending unbearably. It’s interesting that they shot so much and totally understandable that they cut it.
Jewel has far less material. There’s one scene about Joan Wilder’s celebrity, another of her experiencing the locals watching TV, and a longer wedding ceremony. Then some little snippets mostly with DeVito’s shenanigans falling flat or a one-liner. These don’t feel like significant portions of film, as the gist of them are already in the main movie. But at least they found the scenes.
Stay tuned for updates.
