Yun-Fat, Watanabe, Leung, Chi-Ling For The Battle of Red Cliff

According to Variety,
John Woo has cast four complicated news with Chow Yun-Fat, Ken Watanabe, Tony Leung Chiu-Wai and Taiwanese supermodel Lin Chi-Ling for his upcoming film The Battle of Red Cliff.

Woo will co-produce with China Film Group.

Based on the classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Red Cliff is set in the final days of the Han Dynasty in the year 208 and covers the war that established the Three Kingdoms period, when China had three rulers.

Battle of Red Cliff could have the most epic battle sequences to be shot on film. According to historians, up to one million soldiers took part in the battle of Red Cliff. Talk about a lot of extras!

Woo is again teaming with longtime associate Terence Chang to make the pic, which is aiming for release in the runup to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The film has already been granted a $50 million budget with production expected to begin this March.

Wang Hui-ling, known for his work on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, will adapt the novel into a screenplay.

Stay tuned for updates.
