Some Kind of Wonderful
Some Kind of Wonderful was not one of John Hughes’ most popular teen movies, but it’s one that probably holds up best. It’s less centered on the ‘80s culture and more about the human themes that will always be viable. The DVD gets equal attention as Pretty in Pink but just seems far more significant.
Some Kind of Wonderful DVD Review
The interviews are pretty revealing and brutal. Lea Thompson talks about coming off of Howard the Duck and how annoying Eric Stoltz’s method acting was. Stoltz seems in good spirits addressing the same issues from the perspective of, “Hey, it’s all good, it worked out.”
There’s a love triangle between Thompson, Stoltz and the director, who ultimately became her husband. One of the actress’s mother had a stroke the night she got the role saw the teaser trailer, so she lied and said she’d already booked the role. I mean, when do you hear about this stuff in any interview, let alone on a DVD?
Pretty in Pink was fine for a “making of the film” look, but Some Kind of Wonderful is the real world, life can suck but things work out DVD. Elias Koteas and Craig Sheffer aren’t even here, so imagine what they’re hiding!
Stay tuned for updates.
