We do enjoy showing off positive early reviews for some films more than others. One such film that has earned this privilege with us is Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth. Ever since the first flash trailer we have been impressed and, considering this film is in a foreign language with a limited release, the film deserves all the praise it can get.
Pan's is one of the few films we hope all of our readers will see, so here is another strong reminder.
Pan's Labyrinth Review
The good people over at AICN have been receiving positive screening reports left and right the past few months for Pan's Labyrinth and now their very own Quint has fallen in love with it.
And here I am telling you what you've already been told a good dozen times already. The film is a masterpiece, easily as good as THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, but I think it's even better. PAN'S LABYRINTH is Guillermo Del Toro at his best on all levels. His script is the best writing he's ever done, the direction is sharp, imaginative, but not showy. The actors are all directed perfectly. Each performance nuanced and different than every other in the film..
I'm in love with the film and I expect most of you to be, too. Tom Joad was shaken by the flick and Laura, who, remember, hadn't ever seen a Guillermo Del Toro movie, was floored, like she had just discovered the world's a much bigger place.
The review concentrates on the writing and the characters, so check out the full report over at AICN.
Pan's Labyrinth is currently set for a limited release on December 29th.
