ForeignMovie Trailers
The first foreign film is the film festival hit, and true story, called
Nobody Knows [Dare mo shiranai, Japan]. The whole premise
of the film is about four Asian children who are forced to rely on one another
after being abandoned by their immature mother. The film follows the children
in a scrutinizing manner as we attempt to watch the survival of family and
the human spirit. Nobody Knows is directed by Hirokazu Koreeda.
The second foreign film is titled The Green Butchers [Grønne
slagtere, De]. This is a foreign comedy that takes you on a journey as two
men try to create their own butcher shop. The two men, Svend and Bjarne,
face rough beginnings until an in-work accident causes the demand for their
meat to increase. While this does not sound too funny, it throws in an unsparing
amount of 'quirky' laughs [darker comedy].
It is about time we had a documentary that goes deep inside Iraq from the
position of the soldiers, instead of the position of film makers who already
have a preconceived agenda. This films looks as entertaining as it is power.
In Gunner Palace, the film makers allow us to hang out with the United States
Army's 2/3 Field Artillery unit, a.k.a. the Gunner Battalion, who are positioned
in Hussein's Al Azimiya Palace in Adhamiya, the most volatile area of Baghdad.
Take a daring look at this mix between survival of youth, war, suffering,
and comedy.
