Scarface
The latest reissue of Universal’s ultimate vault title Scarface boasts newly remastered sound, which I’m sure is a treat for those of you with THX living rooms. In this age of HDTV, it seems a little more urgent to test the aged film on one of technology’s newest advances, like my JVC 56” projection set.
Scarface DVD Review
Scarface converts to HDTV with medium grain. It is definitely ‘80s film stock, but it’s not blurry as the grains try to fill in the big screen. That scar is pretty sharply defined, even if the rest of the face is softer focused.
There are some dirty, grimy city scenes that are not supposed to demonstrate glamour and color. Other scenes contrast well, with shiny cars with solid colors, bright neon signs and blue pool water. The red upholstered mansion fills the screen with all the shades of carpet divots and Michelle Pfieffer’s entrance with the shiny green dress and golden coif is stunning.
Stay tuned for updates.
