Not only has Ron Howard helped Universal land their next adaptation, but he will direct it as well.
Ron Howard to Direct Frost/Nixon
According to Variety,
Peter Morgan's play, Frost/Nixon, has received competitive interest from multiple studios including WIP, The Weinstein Co, Dreamworks and Universal Pictures. Thanks to the help of Ron Howard, it was Universal who landed the screen rights over this weekend.
Howard saw the show at the West End's Donmar Warehouse last week and was said to have helped hammer out the pact during his London stay.
The sale of the play's film rights was initially delayed by the sellers until a suitable date could be found. Universal agreed to shoot the project following the show's West End and Broadway transfers.
Frost/Nixon covers the famed 1977 television interviews between David Frost and former president Richard Nixon. Production, which quickly sold out its limited run, stars Frank Langella as Nixon and Michael Sheen as Frost.
Peter Morgan is currently working to adapt his play into a screenplay.
Before Ron Howard, both Sam Mendes and Martin Scorsese were in line to direct the project.
