Rob Cohen on set of Fast and the Furious
Director Rob Cohen is stepping out of the vehicles but keeping with thrillers. Instead of fast cars or possessed jets, this time he will take us right into prison.
Rob Cohen to Direct Scared Stiff
According to THR,
Rob Cohen has signed on to direct Scared Straight, a prison thriller for New Line Cinema.
Scared Straight centers on a governor's teenage son who is sent to prison as part of Scared Straight, a crime-prevention program that imprisons delinquent teens for a short period in the hopes of deterring them from a life of crime. While the teenager is there, a riot breaks out and the prisoners take him hostage. He teams with other street kids and a con to stop the riot.
Cohen, like his cars and jets, plans to update the prison from the usual old relic design. "It's going to be a sophisticated, state-of-the-art prison, which of course will be its weakness."
"After the success of Prison Break, there is revival of interest in the genre," Cohen said in an interview. "It's going to be a genre movie with depth, and the depth will come from the character. It's the fight for the soul of this young kid who is on the verge."
Just in case you weren't getting my pun, you can rent some Cohen projects to the likes of XXX, Fast and the Furious and Stealth.
