Surf's Up Poster
When I first heard about Columbia Pictures upcoming CG animated film, Surf's Up, I had more than doubts. With a premise filled with even more penguins, Surf's Up seemed like the next big CG animated flop; something that is becoming more and more common.
The film did have one saving grace -- the graphics. If Columbia Pictures could somehow create a living and breathing ocean with realistic waves they could have something; even if it was just eye candy.
Fortunately for everybody, the first trailer for Surf's Up is beyond impressive from start to finish.
Surf's Up Trailer
A stylistically daring CGI feature, Surf's Up is based on the groundbreaking revelation that surfing was actually invented by penguins. In the film, a documentary crew will take audiences behind the scenes and onto the waves during the most competitive, heartbreaking and dangerous display of surfing known to man, the Penguin World Surfing Championship.
Old video footage of a wave in Surf's Up
The trailer begins with the old videos and those looks great. Then we cut to the characters and they look great. Then we see some CG-created waves and they look so damn good that you want to shout 'Bosinova!' The only thing left for Columbia Pictures to do is deliver an intriguing story; that, my friends, is still up in the air.
