Weinstein Delivers English Market to The Besieged Fortress
TWC acquired the rights from TF1 International. The announcement was made today by Maeva Gatineau, co-head and executive vice president of acquisitions and co-productions for The Weinstein Company and Nicolas Eschbach, TF1 International executive vice president, international distribution.
Starring real insects, The Besieged Fortress is a suspenseful wildlife documentary shot like a true disaster movie, using pioneering techniques to provide exclusive footage and give an unprecedented insight into the fascinating world of invertebrates.
In the midst of the African savannah, over a million termites are hard at work when disaster suddenly strikes: a deluge of tropical rain floods pour through galleries and chambers provoking panic and chaos. Cracks and breaches in the termites castle are an open invitation to a horde of aggressive, carnivorous ants to invade, threatening the colony's survival.
Maeva Gatineau stated, "We are thrilled to be involved with our friends at TF1 on this captivating documentary exploring a visually stunning world that Philippe Calderon has brilliantly managed to capture."
Maeva Gatineau and Eileen Rodriguez, director of acquisitions for The Weinstein Company, negotiated the deal on behalf of TWC. Nicolas Eschbach, TF1 International, negotiated on behalf of TF1. The market premiere will be at AFM this November in Los Angeles. TFM Distribution will release the film in France on October 18, 2006. TF1 International is handling worldwide sales.
